Weil Gotshal & Manges has hired corporate big-hitter Laurent Faugérolas from Willkie Farr & Gallagher’s Paris office.
Faugérolas’s appointment brings the number of partners in Weil’s French office to 18.
At Willkie Farr Faugérolas advised on a number of high-profile deals, including acting for Sanofi-Synthélabo shareholder Total on its €57.7bn (£38.6bn) acquisition of Aventis in 2004 and continuing to act for Sanofi-Aventis on later acquisitions.
Other significant transactions included acting for Compagnie Generale de Geophysique (CGG) in its $3.1 billion (£2.7bn) agreement to acquire Veritas DGC and chemical producer Arkema’s €500m (£430m) bond issue last year.
Weil executive partner Barry Wolf said Faugérolas would be “a great addition to our global M&A and capital markets platforms”.
