Weil Gotshal & Manges is set to make a play for US conglomerate GE’s European business as it relocates one of its most senior trade and regulatory partners to Paris.
Carl Lobell, a highly rated expert in his field and former co-chair of Weil Gotshal’s trade practices and regulatory law department, is due to move to the firm’s Paris office by mid-May. It is expected that he will work from the office for between two and three years.
As the main client partner for GE in the US, it is hoped that Lobell’s move will encourage the company to hand out work to Weil Gotshal’s Paris office, which is the result of last year’s merger with Serra Leavy & Cazals.
Prior to the two firms’ combination, Lobell is known to have worked closely with Serra Leavy’s managing partner Claude Serra on a number of transactions.
