Aggressive US firm, Weil Gotshal & Manges plans to expand its client base following the recruitment of Paul Claydon and Mike Francies from Pinsent Curtis and Clifford Chance last week.
London office boss Maurice Allen said that he hopes to increase the firms business as the firm embarks on a major expansion of corporate services for communications and technology companies.
Allen claimed that no other US firm is offering genuine transatlantic corporate services in this sector.
"No other US firm in London has a properly-resourced corporate practice. So [Weil Gotshal's corporate group] is a first in our market. There has been large number of inward investments from the US into the UK, driven by the feeling that everything has been bought in the US. US corporations see Europe as a place they can buy things relatively cheaply."
Allen said that his firm has a large office in Silicon Valley and is able to bring banking, merger and acquisition and technical skills together.
He said that he aims to add another two partners in the next 18 months.
Francies brought three associates with him when he started this month and Claydon one in September, and they have hired four more to add to Weil Gotshal's existing five associates.
