Weil Gotshal taps Gide for Paris finance partner

Weil Gotshal & Manges has bolstered its Paris practice with the hire of Gide Loyrette Nouel partner David Malamed.

Malamed, who focuses on finance and investment funds, acts for financial sponsors, issuers and borrowers on transactions and financing.

Weil executive partner Barry Wolf said: “Our banking and finance practice in France has grown dramatically. [Malamed’s] reputation for excellence precedes him.”

Malamed said: “The firm’s international footprint and collaborative approach to helping clients was attractive, as was the depth and breadth of the firm’s resources, which will allow me to serve clients anywhere in the world in a comprehensive manner.”

This is the fourth partner Gide has lost from its Paris office this year. The firm lost two partners and three associates in the space of a week earlier this year, with capital markets partner Patrice Doat and a team of associates leaving for Linklaters (30 August 2011) and employment partner Philippe Desprès joining Winston & Strawn (7 September 2011).
