Weightmans has hired a senior employment specialist from Royal Mail Group as part of a new strategy to expand its labour practice.
Mark Landon joins as a partner in the London office. He was previously with Royal Mail for 10 years, the last six of which he has spent leading a team of employment lawyers overseeing a workforce of 197,000.
Weightmans head of employment David Jacks said Landon's appointment was in line with the firm's expansion plans. "Our employment dep-artment is expanding quickly at the moment," he said.
The hire signals a strategy change for the firm, which last year focused on real estate. In November, Weightmans raided Keoghs for property partner Anne Dobie. This followed the hire of Clive Bleasdale as property head along with a team of lawyers from Perkins Solicitors earlier in 2005.
Landon already has a relationship with Weightmans, as the firm has been on Royal Mail's panel as North West adviser for nearly nine years.
