Weightmans has boosted its healthcare practice with the hire of rated Clyde & Co partner John Mitchell and a team of associates.

Mitchell joins the London office of Weightmans after 16 years as a partner at Clydes, where he headed the firm’s healthcare team.

Clydes said the practice area is not a priority for the firm, which focuses primarily on areas such as litigation and insurance. A spokesperson for Clydes said the firm would not be looking to replace Mitchell.

Along with his team of two senior solicitors, Mitchell will strengthen Weightmans’ sizeable healthcare practice, which is led by Tony Yeaman. He acts for doctors and dentists, NHS trusts, health authorities and other institutions, and also has expertise in matters concerning the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act.

Mitchell said he had been “hugely impressed” by Weightmans’ reputation in the healthcare industry. The firm acts on both contentious and non-contentious matters, advising NHS trusts in particular.
