Weightmans has turned to Hill Dickinson to hire its lead marine and transit team partner Phil James.
James, who will be based in the firm’s Liverpool office, will join with a strong following in the marine insurance markets, according to the firm. His clients include Atlantic Container Line, Bibby Ship Management, Norfolkline and P&O Ferries.
Weightmans senior partner and head of the marine team Ian Evans said: “Phil’s a well regarded figure in the marine industry and his expertise will sit well with that of the existing team. His experience in dealing with a wide range of marine liabilities affords us the opportunity to develop a number of areas of the practice.”
Meanwhile, Eversheds is to launch an international trade team following the hire of senior associate Terry O’Regan from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
The new team, which will slot into the firm’s marine practice, will advise on all aspects of international trade law.
Eversheds head of shipping Stephen Mackin said: “It’s a pleasure to have Terry on board. His considerable knowledge of international trade and shipping law will be a great asset to the team.
“By establishing an international trade team in London, we’ll be better placed to meet the needs of our clients working in the international marketplace.”
While at the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation O’Regan acted as senior legal advisor providing English law advice in relation to all aspects of the sale and delivery of Kuwait’s crude oil and petroleum products.
