If it's not careful, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom will get itself a reputation for being a kindhearted, caring law firm. The WSJ Law Blog reports on an email from New York partner Wally Schwartz, who has launched Skadden Hot Cocoa Day for chilly lawyers.
"As the cold weather returns, I remember how great it was last year to have a nice cup of hot cocoa upon arrival at the office on chilly winter mornings.
Therefore, beginning January 3rd (tomorrow!), any day during the week on which the morning temperature hits a cool 30 degrees or below will officially be a Skadden Hot Cocoa Day. See you soon!"We just hope he means 30° Fahrenheit, otherwise those associates might have to wait quite a while for the cocoa.
And this isn't the only lovey-dovey email that Schwartz has sent round. Last December he banned alcohol from the Skadden office party on New Year's Eve.

Mixing business with pleasure often spoils them both, but one gets the feeling that IP blogger and golf enthusiast David Dawsey manages to combine them without much trouble. His blog, IP Golf Guy (www.golf-patents.com), is a source of IP news for the golf industry and about as niche as it is possible to get.
The average reader is unlikely to be able to make much sense out of Dawsey's posts without an in-depth knowledge of both golf and patent law. But that doesn't stop his enthusiasm.
"Would you consider playing irons that have a non-metallic face? How about a non-metallic face plated with nanocrystalline material? Does it just sound too futuristic? Within the past 2 weeks Callaway had an interesting patent application directed to just such a set of irons."
Well, at least we know what to get him for his birthday.
