Petrol hump

Strange and unusual court cases can often slip under the radar, but if you’re a fan of the weird and wonderful world of crime, then the Smoking Gun (www.thesmoking gun.com) should be on your favourites bar.

The latest post is a cautionary tale about the rising price of petrol. Kentucky woman Angela Eversole has been charged with prostituting herself for the stuff – which isn’t a bad idea considering oil is touching the $150 (£75)-a-barrel mark. One of Eversole’s clients was Kenneth Novak, who paid in part for the services with a petrol card worth around $100 (£50).

The blog reports: “A local prosecutor noted that it was sad to see someone selling their body for gas, in this case about 25 gallons worth.”

Americans are famous for their love of cars. We only hope that the price doesn’t pass the $200 (£100) mark, or a trip to the gas station could become quite daunting.

Blogbuster

There’s one blog considered to be the grand old dame presiding over the world of legal blogs – Overlawyered (http://overlawyered.com). The blog has just celebrated its ninth birthday after being set up by Manhattan Institute senior fellow Walter Olson in 1999 – before the word ‘blog’ even existed.

“Without our loyal audience we wouldn’t have made it through nine years – and wide acclaim as the oldest legal blog, as well as one of the most popular,” the post reads. “In yesterday’s thread, reader Greg Dwyer says he has ‘read every single post on this site’ (I’m impressed).”

I’m not. Get back to work, Dwyer.
