Watson Farley & Williams is bolstering its trainee solicitor intake following strong growth in the first half of the 2010/11 financial year.
The top 50 law firm is planning to hire two additional trainees for its already 12-strong Autumn 2012 intake, which it hopes to recruit from its forthcoming Easter vacation scheme. Watson Farley has also going to grow its 2013 cohort from 12 to 14, a move that will be welcomed by aspiring trainee solicitors in what remains a difficult jobs market.
Graduate recruitment manager Louise Turgoose told Lawyer2B.com: “Our commitment to increase the number of trainees complements the expansion of the firm and will strengthen the pipeline of junior talent within Watson Farley & Williams.”
The rise in Watson Farley’s hiring targets coincides withdouble-digit revenue growth for the first six months of the 2010-11 financial year. The firm made £37.6m during the period, up 11 per cent on the comparable period last year, when the firm took in £34m (Lawyer2B.com, 15 November 2009).
In recent months Watson Farley has also made a number of significant lateral hires including the appointment last month of asset finance partners Rex Rosales and Siva Subramanian and three associates from Reed Smith (Lawyer2B.com, 8 December). The new aviation finance team will be offering a trainee seat.
Watson Farley’s trainee solicitor retention rates have come in at 92 per cent for the past two years, providing further evidence of the firm’s recent success.
