Ward Hadaway has hired Schofield Sweeney commercial and competition partner Andrew Finfer to bolster its Leeds office.
Finfer, a ratings expert, came to prominence when he mounted a successful campaign to prevent backdated business rates being levelled against UK ports.
The campaign, which has been running more than two years, has seen Finfer and his campaign team lobby Westminster, eventually leading to a defeat of the last Government in the House of Lords. He is now working with the coalition Government on legislation to abolish backdated rates.
“Whilst the port rates campaign has met with real success, there’s still some way to go,” said Finfer. “I’ll continue to provide support and expertise to those businesses affected in the time to come.”
Commenting on his move to the North East firm, he added: “The firm has an excellent reputation for high quality work and a real rapport with clients and it’s clearly ambitious for more success.”
Ward Hadaway commercial head Colin Hewitt said: “Andrew has done some fantastic work with this very important campaign and is a high-profile, nationally recognised expert in his field so his recruitment is a real coup for the firm.
“He’ll be a real asset to Ward Hadaway and our clients so we’re delighted he’s chosen to join us.”
