Cayman Islands firm Walkers has launched an office in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) after taking over the territory's corporate and international finance firm Barkers
Partner Simon Pascoe will relocate from the Caymans to head the office. He will be joined by four partners and four assistants from Barkers, with additional support from Walkers' Cayman and London offices. A Walkers spokesperson said that while BVI firms have established track records, they lack people with the kind of City background that Pascoe can offer. The spokesperson added: "Clients also say that lawyers are slow in providing services there, which is in contrast to the speedy service provided in the Caymans." Walkers' new office will be full service, providing litigation, property and immigration, as well as corporate and finance capacity.
