Wachtell rockets to first in Asia-Pacific M&A

Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz has stormed up the M&A rankings to take the top spot for the Asia-Pacific region for announced deals.

According to Thomson Financial’s M&A league table for the second quarter of 2005 Wachtell, which ranked 95th for the same period last year, topped the table after advising on three deals totalling $28bn. The US firm is advising the target on the acquisition of Unocol Corp by China National Offshore Oil Corp for$20.4bn – this quarter’s largest deal.

Meanwhile, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has jumped nine places to take second place, after working on 25 deals totalling $26.7bn.
