Tulkinghorn was chatting to a young Australian associate from Herbert Smith the other day and up cropped the perennially problematic issue of visas and how difficult it is to get one. "Lucky for you," said Tulkinghorn, "that you have the might of Herbert Smith's immigration specialists to assist you with your application."
Not so! The poor dear informed him that she had almost been forced to go all the way back to Oz after certain individuals at the firm stuffed up her application. Apparently it was a mix-up between HR and the immigration lawyers, but it came very close to going pear-shaped. Dear oh dear.
