Vinson & Elkins is soon to have a new chairman and managing partner in the shape of Mark Kelly and Scott Wulfe respectively.
Both Houston-based partners have been appointed for a two-year term starting 1 January 2012. They succeed managing partner Joe Dilg, who will step down from his post at the end of 2011.
“Scott and I intend to continue to actively practice law and to ensure that the firm continues to provide excellent service to our clients on a global basis,” Kelly said. “We believe together we can cover more ground and meet the needs of our clients and the firm with greater efficiency and effectiveness.”
Dilg pointed to V&E’s growth over the past 10 years, highlighting 2010 as the firm’s best year ever. During his tenure, V&E added six offices outside the US including the addition of offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo. It also established a foothold in the Middle East with offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh and launched a West Coast presence, with a California base in Palo Alto.
Both Kelly and Wulfe will be involved in setting firm-wide strategy and overseeing the firm’s direction, values, and vision.
“Mark and Scott are superb choices to handle the next stage in the firm’s direction and growth,” Dilg said. “As a team, they will be formidable and will be better able to meet competitive challenges in the legal environment by supporting our outstanding group of lawyers.”
Kelly is currently V&E’s global business chair, its capital markets practice group leader and a member of V&E’s management committee.
Wulfe is also a member of V&E’s management committee and currently serves as co‑head of the firm’s corporate department.
