  • Lewis Jones deserves credit for overseeing the assembly of a team that is one of the most popular in the region amongst clients and lawyers alike.
With a group of partners that is both technically excellent and incredibly friendly it is little wonder that they have been able to attract so much elite talent over the last 18 months.
He is leaving them in great health and Ayman Khaleq is a great choice to take them forward from here. I fully expect them to climb to the top of the regional rankings within 2 years.

  • Well the PR department at V&E clearly went over board there but I think the positivity is warranted. They are expanding steadily and have picked up some big high-profile instructions recently in the region in corporate, finance and projects and look like the firm of the moment in the region.

  • It's good that you PR types have such a clear idea of what your views mean to lawyers.

  • ... I know my earlier comment looks like cheesy PR guff but that wasn't the intention. As a recruiter in the region I've seen them steadily add Magic Circle quality people over the last 18 months without suffering any major losses and so thought the praise was fair.
As Caroline says they are doing very well at the moment and are giving the usual suspects a run for their money.
Hugey, just because someone says something nice about something or someone doesn't mean they are on their payroll.

  • It takes something special to miss the simple point I made, but you seem to have it.

  • Vinson & Elkins rank just above Baker Botts - I hope the recruiter gets lots of business from them.

  • That's true for now, but the only firms that have been able to lure comparable talent in recent times have been Latham, Magic Circle and to a certain extent SNR (obviously only talking about the region here).
This is being reflected in the deals they are now winning and will be reflected in the regional rankings in the coming years...

  • Why did it take so long for them to launch in Saudi? VE is clueless when it comes to the ME, and they are far behind the other US firms. Ayman probably has time on his hands and understands the ME more than the others.Good luck to him. He will have his hands full.

  • Henry obviously knows little about law firms and the legal market in the ME.What talent has SNR attracted in the region? In fact they've lost most of the (little) talent they had in the ME. I expect he's after work from them as well!

  • SNR is one of the leading firms in the ME no doubt about that. They have strong and credible offices all over the ME. Under DWS they have gone from strength to strength.SNR is a leading firm in the ME.It remains to be seen if they can keep it up now under SNR.
