Vehicle incident manager FMG to launch ABS with NewLaw

Vehicle incident management group FMG has become the latest business to launch an ABS in a bid to offer legal services.

FMG Legal, an LLP, will work in partnership with Cardiff-based personal injury firm NewLaw Solicitors, an ABS specialist that earlier this month struck a similar deal with insurance giant Ageas UK (4 April 2013).

FMG, which has received regulatory approval for the venture, becomes one of the first fleet management companies to set up a new legal entity and will direct the freshly launched offering at its roster of business-fleet customers. Services will include advice on and assistance with personal injury claims following non-fault incidents, as well as private client services such as wills, trusts and probate.

FMG CEO John Catling said in a statement: “We recognise that incidents do happen, and when they do, companies and their employees need to be assured that any legal issues are dealt with in an efficient way, so as to lessen the impact on all involved. FMG is built on providing support for our customers and this new initiative signals our intention to broaden that support.

“This is an innovative solution to an issue faced by businesses, who in the past, may have been unsure of who to turn to, or who they were dealing with.”

NewLaw CEO Helen Molyneux added: “FMG Legal brings together two very experienced and well-respected companies. We’ve worked hard to establish the right processes, which will provide a streamlined service for businesses and their drivers.”

FMG’s clients have included Asda, SIG and Northgate and Morrison Utility Services. It also holds the contract to manage the Highways Agency’s national vehicle recovery service, a scheme to enable traffic officers to remove abandoned, broken-down and accident-damaged vehicles from motorways in England.
