The pending case we highlighted on August 30 in which the Vat man was scheduled to face a big challenge over his refusal to refund Vat overpayments took a surprising turn at the Vat tribunal doors. Customs and Excise were faced with a claim by the Nottingham-based Faculty of Building for repayment of more than £52,000 in respect of overpayments going back over three years. But specialist tax solicitor Clare Mainprice, who represented the faculty, says the Vat men settled in full at the court door, also paying costs to avoid a definitive tribunal ruling being given against them.
