Silicon Valley-based Gunderson Dettmer has poached two partners from DLA Piper’s Beijing office to launch its first overseas presence in China’s capital city.
Gunderson has hired DLA Piper’s former Beijing head of corporate Steve Liu and partner Chris Terry for the planned Beijing launch.
Gunderson primarily offers legal services to entrepreneurs, emerging growth companies and venture capital firms. It has 125 lawyers in Silicon Valley, Boston, New York and San Diego. The new Beijing office will be the firm’s first location outside of the US.
Prior to joining DLA Piper in 2007, Liu worked at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in the Silicon Valley for nine years. His areas of specialisation are private equity/venture capital, M&A and capital markets. Terry, who also focuses on venture capital and private equity investments, was promoted to partner in DLA Piper’s Beijing office in January 2009.
The firm is yet to announce the specific launch date in Beijing.
