There are some highly acquisitive US litigation firms out there right now.
Yesterday we reported that US trial lawyers Kobre & Kim had hired Fladgate litigator Simon Cullingworth shortly after pouncing on Serle Court silk James Corbett QC (see story).
Now it’s time for the big beast. The litigation leviathan - and one of the US’ most profitable firms - Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has snared a rising star disputes partner from Olswang.
Alex Gerbi, who only became a partner at Olswang three years ago, is set to join the 400-lawyer US firm’s London office next month (see story).
His arrival at Quinn says as much about the importance of keeping tabs on those you meet as it does about the firm’s current expansionist strategy.
Quinn’s London office head Richard East originally got to know Gerbi 10 years ago when the former was at Cadwalader and on the same side of a major dispute (though Gerbi, then at Ince & Co, was representing a different defendant from East).
The pair have also run into each other over the years after Gerbi joined Olswang. And now they’redaily on the same team.
Altogether now, “aahhh”.
But as well as the love-in, Gerbi’s arrival also represents a broadening of Quinn’s City-based recruitment drive.
