This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Uría Menéndez has created a new management structure, phasing out the dual managing partner roles common to many Spanish firms in favour of an ’Anglo-Saxon style’ model.
The firm’s previous joint managing partners, José María Segovia and Luis de Carlos, will become the new senior partner and managing partner respectively.
A spokesperson argued that Uría already had such a model in all but name.
“The English firms were the pioneers of having one managing partner and one senior partner, but Luis was [already] focused on the management of the firm and José María on the tasks of senior partner - managing the core practice areas of the firm, conflicts of interest and ontological issues with the Bar Association,” the spokesperson said. “We’ve created the structure to give some sense to what they were already doing.”
Aurelio Menéndez, the only one of the firm’s founders still alive, is to become the firm’s honorary president, a non-executive and representative role.
The spokesperson explained: “It’s very important to keep the founders involved in the firm, one of the ways of keeping the values and core ideas.”
At the same time Uría has made eight internal promotions to partner.
