This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
A new feature this week is Tulkinghorn’s sporting corner. With the ever-growing number of City types donning shorts and aiming to ape real athletes (you work at a desk, so deal with it), Tulkinghorn has decided to flag up some of the more unusual – and occasionally worthy – efforts.
First up is Louise Walsh, a legal secretary at Welsh contender Leo Abse & Cohen. Walsh, who is clearly not one to cross, is set to become the first Welsh female professional boxer only 12 months after discovering her love for the sport during a boxercise class. She is currently training each evening with Steve Robinson, the seven-time World Featherweight Champion, at his ring in Cardiff, and is looking to turn professional. At which point she can begin beating seven bells out of the partners if she’s not happy. About anything.
Meanwhile, a team from Reed Smith has jumped on the all-things-Greek-are-great bandwagon by climbing Mount Olympus, raising over £100,000 for charity in the process. Congrats to the firm’s Ian Fagelson, who spearheaded the climb.
Last, Ashurst was looking to defend its crown as last year’s lead law firm in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge. According to the blurb, the challenge is the “largest and most successful” racing series in the world. Hoorah! This year’s event took place on 7 and 8 July in Battersea Park, with Jonathan Edwards as the celebrity starter.
