NORTH WEST-based Brabners Chaffe Street
continues as one of the UK’s proportionately most
profitable firms. Average PEP last year stood at
£321,000, a margin of 43 per cent.
Compared with PEP, average capital contributions
are low at £120,000. Average salaried partner
remuneration is £83,000, a figure on a par with
Brabners’ regional peers’. The firm has added just one salaried partner to its roster, while the 28-strong
equity has remained static.
The firm’s turnover rose by 20 per cent to £21m after
a busy year in the North West. Investment during the
year, in particular the recruitment of James Chapman
& Co’s commercial team, means that Brabners expects
to make £25m in 2007, although the lateral hires, in
addition to new premises in Manchester, could dent
next year’s profit.
Brabners’ lock-up is on the high side at 180 days,
which is split equally between WIP and debtor
days. The firm relies less on litigation than some of
its competitors, with property being the largest
practice area, bringing in 33 per cent (£6.9m)
of income.
