BROWNE JACOBSON’S turnover broke through the
£30m barrier for the first time this year to reach
£30.1m, an increase of 11.5 per cent on last year’s
£27.1m. However, equity partners will be lamenting
an 8 per cent drop in average PEP, which fell to
£292,000 after last year’s blockbusting £316,000.
This was due partly to an increase in the partnership
from 50 last year to 57.
Partners will be looking to boost PEP back to last
year’s record level by increasing the net margin,
which at 19.1 per cent has room for improvement.
Profit is distributed on a modified lockstep basis, with
approximately 20 per cent of net profit distributed via
bonuses. Partners receive between one and four bonus
points for a range of 10 criteria, including billable hours
and contribution to the team, along with management
and client relationship building.
Partners reach the maximum 100 points after five
years. Last year partners at the bottom of the equity
took home £160,000 and those at the top £350,000.
