GIBSON DUNN & Crutcher enters The Lawyer’s
rankings this year for the first time following
significant growth within the London office.
The blue-chip firm, which has historically opted
for cautious expansion in Europe, showed a change
in pace, increasing its local presence to 41 lawyers
through a string of hires, including taht of litigator
Phillip Rocher from Clifford Chance.
The growth is in line with the firm’s strategy to
increase global leverage to three to one. However, the
firm’s recruitment requirement for top academic records, irrespective of the size of the candidate’s
client book, is proving a barrier to this.
Deal highlights included representing Whitbread
in its £1bn sale of Marriott Hotels to Marriott
International, the US owner of the brand name.
