DAVIS POLK& Wardwell’s London office won a role
last year on one of the UK’s most eagerly anticipated
deals, advising NTL on its $6bn (£3.43bn) merger
with Telewest.
Other deal highlights included advising Royal
Bank of Scotland on a $4bn (£2.14bn) offering of
extendable floating-rate notes.
The London office remains avowedly US capability only, although during 2005 it added
a French local law capability when it hired its
first non-US lateral in Freshfields Bruckhaus
Deringer’s former co-head of M&A in Paris Arnaud
Pérès.
Davis Polk operates an all-equity partnership and
is one of the few remaining firms with a pure lockstep
remuneration system.
