The last 12 months saw Taylor Wessing outline
its international strategy and pencil in Italy specifically
for further growth. This year The Lawyer for
the first time publishes a combined turnover for
the firm's UK, German and French practices, reflecting
the ground the firm has made towards full financial
integration. Consequently, Taylor Wessing
rockets 13 places up the top 100 table.
Combined turnover was £127.3m, while average
PEP stood at £345,800. In the UK, however,
PEP was considerably higher at £400,300.
The firm reviewed its equity during the year,
resulting in 12 fewer full equity partners over the
next two years in the UK. The effect on PEP should
be obvious next year. Managing partner Michael
Frawley's tenure has also seen a considerable tightening
of financial management, including the introduction
of a 26-point note to partners on billing
procedures and the reduction of bad debt exposure
to £116,000.
Taylor Wessing continues to be perceived as a
technology and IP-focused firm, but strategically
focuses on three core areas: corporate and commercial,
IP and real estate. Client wins during the
year included Anglian Water Group and the firm's
appointment to the GE Commercial Finance and
Legal & General panels. Internationally, Taylor
Wessing also won work from Villeroy & Bosch,
Johnson Matthey, Avery Weigh-Tronix and Finisar
Corporation.
