Despite MAITLAND'S merger with 9 Old
Square, combined turnover remained almost
static last year, inching up from £21m to
£21.8m. Post-merger, the set has 66 barristers,
including 14 silks, compared with 43 and 10
this time last year. Maitland's barristers
appeared in the House of Lords six times last
year, compared with one appearance the year
before, and the set clocked up 57 appearances
in the Court of Appeal, more than doubling
the 25 of 2004.
In addition to the almost obligatory
involvement in the Equitable case, Maitland
had plum roles on the public inquiry into
the collapse of MG Rover and advised the
Treasury on National Westminster Bank v
Spectrum Plus, which went all the way to the
Lords. Slightly more quirky was Maitland's
involvement in the continuing IP battles
of hairy 1970s middle-distance runner
David Bedford. |
