This list appears to be the tip of the iceberg - there are other UK 200 firms who have made redundancies or about to make redundancies who are not mentioned here.

What about the rest of the Uk firms? I was made redundant a month ago and my firm is a high street firm in the provinces. Although I have signed up with a couple of recrutiment companies, I am being realistic mindful of the current economic situation and wonder if I will be able to return to a legal job at all. Bye bye to over 15 years PQE. Solicitors in a similar situation will have to be more flexible as to career alternatives.

It would be interesting to know the total over the whole of the UK. What percentage of the profession is now redundant and facing retraining? And what was the total cost of all those lawyers training up? Is does make you wonder if those hours at law school were worth it.

The figure for Eversheds seems to have increased substantially recently. Is 618 really the correct figure?

It is now 23rd June and this figure appears to have last been updated on 22nd April. What is the true current figure?

Dont forget the hordes of people paid off to "resign" rather than be made redundant, in return for keeping quiet about it all. That is the preferred method.
What surveys should do is compare head count from this time last year....that'd give us a better picture me thinks.

As stated by my contemporaries below this figure is far from a true reflection; the number of people who have “voluntarily” left and are therefore not accountable within this figure is probably huge. When one considers that unemployment figures lag behind the reduction in profits and turnover it is very worrying! Still, its times like this which give employees a good excuse to kick out the “dead wood” too. Hopefully when the economy does improve lessons will not only have been learnt but remembered too! I won’t hold my breath.

I know for certain that Travers Smith have 'let go' a considerable number of lawyers - well into double figures. Insiders believe that the firm has lost 30% of its corporate department, one way or another (not to mention others from different departments that were elbowed out in the cull of March 2009).

I was made redundant in March and I am still seeking work - legal or otherwise. Retraining is not that simple either - I have been rejected outright for many roles on the grounds of being over-qualified.
My firm (top 200) is not on this list either, nor is another top 200 firm in my region that I know has made redundancies.

How come Mayer Brown is not on here? The people I worked with as part of the MB finance team, half of them are no longer working there, especially the more senior ones. (But the best elements are still there, no doubt)
