Bird & Bird has strengthened its Italian corporate group with the hire of a partner from SJ Berwin in Milan.
M&A partner Arturo Meglio, one of SJ Berwin’s founding Milan partners, advises private and public companies, private equity funds and financial institutions on domestic and international M&A. He will split his time between Bird & Bird’s offices in Milan and Rome.
Meglio is joining the firm along with three corporate associates, two of whom also join from SJ Berwin’s Italian corporate practice and one of whom joins from Clifford Chance.
Alberto Salvadè, head of corporate in Bird & Bird’s Milan office, said the addition of the four lawyers strengthened and supported the growth of the firm’s practice.
“Given the increasing positive trend in Italy towards an improving mid-cap market, we’re well placed with our strong M&A and ECM teams to service our clients’ needs,” Salvadè added.
Recent deals the team worked on while at SJ Berwin include Anika Therapeutics’ $34m acquisition of Fidia Advanced Biopolymers.
A spokesman for SJ Berwin said the firm wished Meglio well.
