Lord Justice Simon Tuckey is to join 20 Essex Street at the start of next year following his retirement from the bench in December.
Tuckey LJ, who became a Lord Justice in 1998 and was previously a High Court judge in the Queen’s Bench Division, ;will ;join ;the chambers as an arbitrator.
20 Essex Street head of chambers Iain Milligan QC said the set welcomed the prospect of such “a distinguished member of the commercial judiciary” joining its “stable of international arbitrators”.
The set already has other former members of the judiciary on its books, including Lord Griffiths, Sir Brian Neill and Sir Phillip Otton, who is a mediator.
Tuckey LJ’s move to 20 Essex Street follows Richard Plender QC becoming a High Court judge at the start of this year (The Lawyer, 28 January). Mr Justice Plender became the fourth silk from 20 Essex Street to join the bench.
