The Stafford Hotel, home to the famous American Bar in Mayfair, has been sold to an Egyptian investment group, leading to instructions for Clifford Chance and Trowers & Hamlins.
A three-partner Clifford Chance team acted for the El-Sharkawy family, which owns the Hyatt Regency resort in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.
Corporate partner Spencer Baylin led the team, alongside real estate partner Sarah Thomas and finance partner Damian Perry.
Trowers head of corporate Michael Pattinson represented the seller, pub group Daniel Thwaites, which sold the hotel for £77.5m.
Pattinson was assisted by head of commercial property Jeremy Joiner.
Plus-listed Daniel Thwaites has owned the five-star hotel for 14 years and is an existing client of Trowers.
Pattinson said: “For us, the deal is representative of the type of work we’ve been involved with for a number of years.”
