Trio of firms close £370m West Midlands schools PFI

Addleshaw Goddard, Trowers & Hamlins and White & Case have helped close a schools PFI project in the West Midlands.
The firms acted on the first stage of the £370m Wolverhampton City Council Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project.
The scheme involves modernisation of buildings, ICT and facilities for the 26 schools that educate secondary age pupils in the city.
Addleshaws partners David Hartley and James Whittaker acted for sponsor inspiredspaces, a Carillion-led vehicle, while a team at White & Case, led by partner Anthony Fine, advised Barclays Corporate and RBS in relation to the financing arrangement. He was assisted by employment and pensions partners Stephen Ravenscroft and Nicholas Greenacre.
Trowers & Hamlins partner Amardeep Gill advised Wolverhampton City Council.
Fine said: “This is the fourth BSF PFI project we’ve closed in the last 12 months, reinforcing our leading reputation for advising on UK PFI projects.”
The projects have totalled £1.3bn. At the end of last year, Trowers advised joint funders Barclays and Nationwide on the Durham BSF (The Lawyer, 14 September 2009).
Earlier this year Addleshaws advised Hull City Council on the £400m Hull BSF, working opposite DLA Piper and Pinsent Masons (The Lawyer, 22 March 2010).
