Former Travers Smith managing partner Chris Carroll is to take over as the firm’s senior partner. He will replace Alasdair Douglas, who is understood to be retiring in June after 25 years as a partner at the silver circle firm and nearly five years as senior partner.
Carroll takes the position following soundings within the partnership, but it is understood that there was no other serious candidate for the position. He is expected to continue the strongly international role he forged as managing partner.
Under his leadership Travers Smith focused on building relationships with firms from overseas jurisdictions, but avoided creating a best friends network. Carroll, who served three terms as managing partner from 2001, was succeeded by employment partner Andrew Lilley at the beginning of this year following consultation within the firm.
