Chris Carroll will take on an unofficial roving ambassador role for Travers Smith once he stands down as managing partner of the firm in January.
Insiders at the firm are understood to be keen to task him with developing US relationships, but Carroll told The Lawyer that the extent of any future role was “still up for debate”.
The former chief has been a regular visitor to the States during his tenure.
“There won’t be any new title,” he added, “but I will be doing a lot more general travel.”
Carroll joked he was “looking forward to doing a lot less” in the coming months.
Incoming managing partner Andrew Lilley returned from a five-week sabbatical last week to begin the handover period. Lilley spent his break working in India, running a school for deaf children as part of a scheme run by Adopt A Business.
