Travelers has hired a counsel from Flagstone Re as head of legal and compliance across its European businesses.

John Abramson has replaced Alistair Gunn, who had been at the company for 20 years. It is not known where Gunn has moved to.
Abramson is based in London and is charged with ensuring that Travelers’ legal team can provide strategic legal advice to its business managers. He is also responsible for interacting with regulators on behalf of the company.
Abramson joins Travelers from Flagstone Re, where he was the European general counsel and global compliance officer. Before joining Flagstone, Abramson worked at Chartis, and before that he worked as a dispute resolution lawyer in private practice, specialising in international insurance, reinsurance and financial services. Before he joined Chartis, Abramson was a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf legacy firm Leboeuf Lamb Greene & Macrae. He left in 2002.
In a statement, Travelers’ CEO Sean Genden, said: “John has a solid understanding of the business and regulatory environment affecting insurance companies in Europe. With John’s background and experiences he will be a great partner and counsel.”
