Trainee solicitors have welcomed a “modest” pay in-crease, which sees minimum salaries for trainee solicitors rise from £14,600 to £15,300 in central London and from £13,000 to £13,600 in England and Wales, following a review by the Law Society

The society has also boosted its recommended minimum salary in London from £15,600 to £16,200 and from £14,000 to £14,450 outside London. But this only represents a small increase on the minimum wage itself.

The society has ruled that no waiver should allow a trainee salary to fall to less than £11,000 per year, up from £10,000 last year.

Nadia Akhtar, chair of the Trainee Solicitors' Group said: “Although the increase is a modest one, it is a step in the right direction.”
