Former Clarke Willmott partner Ian Smith has been appointed legal director of the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA).
His new role will involve a seat on the PCA board and closer involvement in the organisation's commercial activities.
Smith was promoted from his former post of legal vice-president and will continue to spend much of his time advising county players on contracts with their clubs.
"It's an added responsibility," he said. "I've always been interested in provision of services to players, but I'm really looking forward to being more involved in the commercial side of things."
The PCA is the representative body for first-class cricketers and works closely with the English Cricket Board (ECB) and the England team.
Smith said he will divide his time equally between advising players and working with the board, where he will report to chief executive Sean Morris.
The PCA will turn to regular advisers Harbottle & Lewis, Liverpool-based Lees Lloyd Whitley and Clarke Willmott for additional corporate advice.
