Canadian law firms Gowling Strathy & Henderson and Code Hunter are merging to form the second biggest firm in the country.
The new firm, which opens up under the Gowling name in January, will have more than 450 lawyers working from six Canadian offices in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, Hamilton and Waterloo Region. Its only foreign office will be in Moscow.
Both Gowlings and Code Hunter have strong litigation practices, particularly in commercial, insurance, public and administrative law.
Gowlings - currently the fourth biggest law firm in Canada - is also renowned for its intellectual property and technology law expertise and 66-lawyer firm Code Hunter for its resource industries specialism.
The combined strengths of the two firms will position the new Gowlings as one of Canada's top business law firms.
