Scottish firm Tods Murray has bolstered its corporate finance and commercial practice with a partner from smaller rival McClure Naismith.
`Alistair Burrow joins the Glasgow office of Tods Murray and brings the firm specialist experience in areas including shipping and insolvency.`Burrow acted for Altnamara Shipping in the £6m purchase of the Hebridean Spirit. He also acted for the vendors of Glasgow's high-profile Devonshire Hotel, which merged this month with One Devonshire Gardens.`Burrow's departure is a blow to McClure Naismith, where he has practiced for the past 10 years. But the firm is also on a hiring spree and has just announced the recruitment of project partner Philip Myerscough from McGrigor Donald.`Myerscough will work with head of projects Steven Brown in McClure Naismith's Edinburgh office.`Brown said: "Phil brings a whole new dimension to our practice. Historically, we've been very successful in health, acting for both trusts and consortia, and we've also done law and order and education projects. One of the advantages of hiring Phil is that he brings skills in other areas where we have been active, but where he has specialist experience."`Senior partner Kenneth Chrystie said that the hire was part of a strategy aimed at boosting the firm's resources in banking, PFI, commercial property and intellectual property.`He said: "We're intent on becoming a recognised leader in a number of key sectors, of which PFI is one, and the key to achieving this is our ability to attract and retain the best people."`Tods Murray opened in Glasgow in June 1999 with a team of just four lawyers. It now has five partners based at the office and 12 other fee-earners.
