South West firm TLT Solicitors is consulting with partners about overhauling the firm’s lockstep to adopt a more merit-based system.
Under the current system the firm’s partners typically enter the lockstep on 50 points and progress up to 100 points over a four-year period.
A small portion of remuneration is linked to performance.
Managing partner David Pester said the firm would work towards implementing a system that is aligned more closely with partner performance rather than lockstep. This is expected to take up to three years to implement, but will be designed to better remunerate partners.
