‘Tis the season to be suing

Christmas is almost upon us. It is the time of peace and goodwill to all men. It is a time for love, laughter and the giving of presents. But not in the legal market.

Mayer Brown kicked off the week with one of its most senior partners being charged with two counts of securities fraud, three counts of making false filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other counts including wire fraud and money laundering. See story

The week has not been that much fun either for Harbottle & Lewis. Its senior partner has been in the High Court trying to recover unpaid fees from Hollywood film magnate Israel Baron. See story

We won’t be suing anyone this week. We will wish a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all. We’ll be back on January 2nd. Have a lovely time whether you’re being sued or not.

Listen. Do You Want to Know a Secret?
17-Dec-2007

The Long and Winding Road that is the McCartney divorce battle took another Twist (and Shout) recently.

Last month, Lady McCartney (“Macca at your feet”) said Goodbye to her long-time legal adviser Anthony Julius at Mishcon de Reya. Now she has moved her account Across the Universe from Holborn to Soho’s finest, M Law. See story

Asking for Help from M Law will surely prove to be a Taste of Honey for Lady M. The firm has a history of fighting long-running legal battles (it was forged partly in the heat of the epic Douglas OK! and Hello! saga).

Although M Law is advising McCartney on her libel battles with three UK newspapers and not her divorce (she’s handling that herself), Heather is sure to have said to Matt Higdon and Chris Hutchings, “Don’t Let Me Down”, after her experience with Mishcon left her settlementless.

Just remember Heather, money can’t buy you love. But it can buy you great lawyers.
