Three Linklaters lawyers have left the firm's office in Bucharest to set up their own practice
Bucharest head of banking Daniel Badea, head of real estate Dragos Radu and senior associate Eugenia Gutium are now partners in 10-lawyer Badea Radu & Gutium. The new firm will focus on finance, real estate and corporate, with a view to cashing in on the privatisation wave set to course through the Romanian market this year. The firm is currently working for at least three major international banks, all of which are contacts that the partners brought with them from Linklaters Bucharest. While at Linklaters Bucharest (called Miculiti & Asociatii Linklaters because of Romanian bar rules), banking specialist Badea headed up the team that drafted Romania's new capital markets laws. Linklaters advised the Romanian National Securities Commission on the laws, which are in line with EU norms, in conjunction with the World Bank. According to Badea, the Romanian economy is set to attract huge amounts of foreign investment this year. The Romanian privatisation agency minister has earmarked 2002 as the peak year for privatisations.
