Theodore Goddard has appointed five partners and a human resources professional to head its newly created international expansion committee

PFI head James Ball-ingall, intellectual property head Hamish Porter, corporate partner Derek Lewis, litigation partner Pietro Marino and human re-sources director Joy Iley have been chosen for the committee.
The committee will concentrate on identifying opportunities for foreign mergers and lateral hires. Iley will be responsible for liaising with headhunters and looking at bolt-on firms. The firm fell out of merger talks with Salans Hertzfeld & Heilbronn last autumn.
Theodore Goddard has also named Michael Black as its new head of banking and projects. He replaces Nigel West, who has been elected as the firm's chief operating officer. Black is understood to be among the top 10 of the firm's highest billing partners, but he said he is not the banking group's top biller.
Black will combine leading the group with his current level of fee-earning. His clients include the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Bank of Scotland division of HBOS.
The firm has also appointed its new management board: Jayesh Patel for banking and projects; Leslie Jackson for corporate; Jonathan Berger for entertainment; John Lomas for litigation; and Andrew Bailey for property.
