Thelen Reid & Priest's Washington DC office has taken on nine partners, all of whom have defected from local rival Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn
The nine partners, seven of whom were full equity partners at Arent Fox, will be in place by the beginning of May. The partners joining Thelen come from a variety of practice groups: Jerome Akman will take his international law practice to the business and finance group; four litigators - David Dekker, Michael Jaffe, Melissa Lesmes and Barbara Werther - join the construction and government contracts team; and the commercial litigation practice will be boosted by the arrival of Carl Valenstein and David Vidal-Cordero. The managing partner at the DC office Andrew Ness said: "They're excellent lawyers with long and outstanding track records. Their addition will greatly expand our representations of a number of joint clients, bring a long list of major new clients to the firm and enable us to better serve our existing clients nationally and internationally by adding depth and breadth to our existing practice groups." The office has undertaken a recruitment drive in recent months. Since the beginning of the year, it has added tax partner Daniel Berman and energy and utilities partner Carol Smoots.
