What was your first-ever job?
What was your first-ever job? Assistant dishwasher at the Highcliffe Hotel, Bournemouth.
What was your worst experience as a trainee? Being expected to teach a trainee of my own after 12 months.
Where's the best place to go if you want to find out what's really going on in the office? The firm's annual autumn retreat, which is attended by every lawyer and non-legal professional from every office.
What time do you usually leave the office? 5.17pm on Mondays, 7.52pm the rest.
What do you do at weekends? Drive. I drive miles to watch AFC Bournemouth, drive miles to chauffeur my teenage daughters and probably drive my wife to distraction.
What's your favourite restaurant? Spizzico in High Barnet.
If you weren't a lawyer, what would you have been? A train guard at Clapham Junction depot, as per my gap year.
What's the best thing about your job? It's two jobs - full-time fee-earner and joint manager of the business.
What's the toughest thing about your job? See above.
What's your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it? Accepting a junior partner position in a firm where the senior partners then fell out spectacularly, leading to a dissolution. I learnt to imagine and to treat your partners as clients, and vice-versa.
What car(s) do you drive? Routemaster Bus and Alfa Romeo, naturally both red.
What book are you currently reading? Can You Feel The Silence? - Clinton Heylin's biography of Van Morrison.
What's on your CD player at the moment? American Idiot by Green Day.
What's your favourite children's book? The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff.
