What was your first-ever job?Lobster fisherman.
What was your worst experience as atrainee?Being a passenger in any car driven by my principal– it was a terrifying experience I had to endureregularly.
Where’s the best place to go if you want tofind out what’s really going on in the office?My firm’s monthly support staff meetings – you canalways get all the gossip there.
What time do you usually leave the office?Around 6pm.
What do you do at weekends?Play golf, attempt to keep my children happy andbecome a party animal.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would youhave been?Probably a scientist of some form – I went touniversity to read chemistry.
Who was your mentor or role model?The partner I worked for when I qualified – heworked almost exclusively for a national brewery.
What’s the best thing about your job?Dealing with people.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?Dismissing staff.
What’s your biggest work/career mistakeand what did you learn from it?Abandoning lobster fishing to go to university. Life asa student was incredibly dull and an overratedexperience.

What book are you currently reading?Calling the Shots by Michael Vaughan.
