What was your first-ever job? Trapping rats in a hen shed - very good money compared with a paper round.
What was your worst experience as a trainee? Spending three glorious summer months locked up in a discovery room on a construction litigation case that the partner already knew was a "no hoper". I decided then and there that contentious work was not for me.
Where's the best place to go if you want to find out what's really going on in the office? Anywhere - having been with the firm a very short time everybody knows more about what's really going on than I do.
What time do you usually leave the office? 7pm to 8pm, but earlier on Fridays if I can possibly help it.
What do you do at weekends? Marvel at the social lives of my children.
What's your favourite restaurant? Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons for special occasions, but our local Pizza Express has its charms as well.
If you weren't a lawyer, what would you have been? Believe me, I thought through all the other options.
Who was your mentor or role model? My father and grandfather - I've been very fortunate in that respect.
What's the best thing about your job? Creativity - I'm not sure there are many jobs left in life where clients are willing to pay for your thinking time.
What's the toughest thing about your job? Maintaining an enthusiasm for all the other things you have to do when you're not working with your clients.
What's your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it? The mistake will have to remain a secret, but I learnt that not everyone wants to be part of a team.
What car(s) do you drive? BMW X5, just about the only thing I have in common with Victoria Beckham, I suspect.
What book are you currently reading? Supreme Courage by General Sir Peter de la Billiere.
What's on your CD player at the moment? Pushing the Senses by Feeder.
What's your favourite children's book? Watership Down, with judicious editing of the scary bits for my under-fives.
