What was your first ever job? A porter in a department store.
What was your worst experience as a trainee? Being torn to shreds by a senior partner for no apparent reason, and then being advised that "your father did it to me and I'm now doing it to you".
Where's the best place to go if you want to find out what's really going on in the office? The pub after work.
What time do you usually leave the office? 7pm.
What do you do at weekends? Walk the smell-hound dog thing for miles, revel in the brilliance of Arsenal and provide a source of amusement to my long-suffering, but much-loved, family.
What's your favourite restaurant? Café de Paris in Monaco on race week.
If you weren't a lawyer, what would you have been? Slim.
Who was your mentor or role model? Roy Mathias of Goldkorn Mathias Gentle, who is the brightest and most perceptive lawyer you would ever want to train with.
What's the best thing about your job? The stakeholders - the clients, the staff, the partners - and working with them all to make a significant difference.
What's the toughest thing about your job? Trying to persuade people locked in the past that the present is not the future.
What's your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it? As a trainee, forgetting to come back after being sent out to buy the drinks for the Christmas party. It taught me never to go to the pub until I'd finished all my chores.
What car(s) do you drive? Mercedes CLK 500. Bring back the 10-year-old Nissan QX - now that was a real car.
What book are you currently reading? French for Beginners.
What's on your CD player at the moment? French for Beginners - and it's been there for 18 months.
What's your favourite children's book? Lord of the Rings - I've been saying that for 35 years.
