The Lawyer Global Litigation Top 50 report is the only ranking of international law firms by litigation and arbitration revenue and is essential reading for anyone seeking to benchmark their litigation and dispute resolution practices...
This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
What was your first-ever job? Selling advertising space for a second-hand car sales publication. It taught me about how far people will go when they rely on a commission-based income.
What was your worst experience as a trainee? Applying for mortgage repossession orders at the County Court. I'd have people twice my age begging me not to make them and their families homeless.
Where's the best place to go if you want to find out what's really going on in the office? I understand that there's a semi-secret Hunton & Williams pie-eating club that meets on Friday lunchtimes.
What time do you usually leave the office? 7pm-7.30pm.
What do you do at weekends? Spend time with my wife and one-year-old daughter and play tennis.
What's your favourite restaurant? Chez Bruce in Wandsworth.
If you weren't a lawyer what would you have been? A journalist.
Who's your hero and why? I'm a big fan of Gianfranco Zola - a highly talented player who, unlike many of his peers, was modest, always played with a smile on his face and never dived.
What's your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it? Joining Enron shortly before it went belly-up and signing up to the employee share options scheme. The lesson: don't believe the hype.
What car do you drive? A VW Golf.
What book are you currently reading? Villages by John Updike.
What's on your iPod at the moment? Beth Orton's Trailer Park.
What's your favourite children's book? Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell - it makes my little girl laugh so much.
What's the most exciting deal/case you've worked on and why? Working on some of the Barings enforcement cases when I was at the Securities and Futures Authority. I'm sill amazed at how, despite various red flags, a major bank agreed to a rogue employee's requests to send more than its entire capital to Singapore to fund non-existent margin calls.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what two luxury items would you take? A DVD player and a boxed set of The West Wing.
What's the longest you've worked without sleep? Thirty-six hours.
If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why? Although I look nothing like him, choosing Rob Lowe would definitely get me into my wife's good books.
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why? Any reality TV star - not that I'd recognise them.
